Summer on the coast is a season alive with the sights and sounds of wild birds. As the tide ebbs, elegant avocets sweep their distinctive upturned bills through the shallow water. Their striking black-and-white plumage stands out against the bright summer landscape, adding a touch of grace to every shoreline scene.
Along the water’s edge, oystercatchers patrol the beaches with confidence. Their bold black-and-white feathers, bright orange-red bills and piercing calls make them one of the coast’s most recognisable birds.
Adding a new note to the summer coastline is the curlew with its long, curved bill and beautifully mottled brown plumage. The curlew’s evocative, bubbling call creates a soundtrack that has become synonymous with Britain’s wild coastal landscapes.
