1 DAY to go to the 1st Potentino Auction!

Kindred spirits by Chantal Coady, the Chocolate Detective

Start bidding now! – ends 20th June

Chantal Coady OBE is a friend from way back when I used to live in London. She was the first truly artisanal chocolatier as the founder of Rococo and her package design became iconic as was her first shop in the King’s Road, Chelsea. She has now set up The Chocolate Detective making amongst other things, the most beautiful birds eggs in chocolate- quite delicious too… We have hosted her at the castle for chocolate making courses where we made a bean to bar Potentino dark bitter chocolate and a sheep’s milk chocolate. It was fascinating to be involved in the whole process. I hasten to add that her chocolate is properly sourced and she really knows her métier or art.

Chantal brings unique expertise both as a hands-on maker and recipe developer using her extraordinary “nose and palate”. She is able to create bespoke products and curate chocolate collections working with other makers.

A recognised world expert on cocoa and chocolate, she has had a lifelong interest in sustainability, branding, design & calligraphy.

Plus she was awarded an OBE medal in the Queen’s birthday honours 2014 for “Services to Chocolate Making” (still the only person to have received this honour) and (even more accomplishments) was recently appointed co-chair of The Academy of Chocolate.

Since the turn of the 21st century Chantal has been working with the farmers and chocolate makers at the Grenada Chocolate Company, and in 2007 invested in an organic cocoa farm on the island. Her focus on genuinely slave free chocolate, as oppose typical business model used by the chocolate industry based on centuries of colonial norms.

“Choose Ethical Chocolate this Black Friday”

Bean sorting

Thank you – to Sourdough School’s Vanessa Kimbell shout out on Instagram:

THIS BLACK FRIDAY, YOU CAN HELP SAVE THE GRENADA CHOCOLATE COMPANY… BY BUYING CHOCOLATE⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
The Grenada Chocolate Company needs your help. By buying and eating chocolate, you can help save a pioneering small-scale chocolate business that is facing an incredible challenge due to transport restrictions during the pandemic affecting their supply chain. Their existence relies on you filling your cupboards with delicious chocolate this Christmas.⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
The Grenada Chocolate Company is close to @VanessaKimbell‘s heart as its founder, Mott Green, was a dear friend. She says that if we’re going to be part of a consumerist society this Black Friday, let’s make sure we’re consuming artisanal products.⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
