Green Friday: Three Bean to Bar Makers Unite to Support Grenadian Cocoa Farmers
Hermitage, St Patrick’s, Grenada This Green Friday, three craft chocolate makers — Pump Street, Table Chocolate and Neary Nogs — join forces with The Chocolate Detective to support cocoa farmers in Grenada with a trio of limited edition bars. Each bar is made from heritage Trinitario beans grown at Grococoa Farm in Hermitage, a farm rooted in community led cocoa production.
Grococoa Farm was purchased in 2006 by Mott Green, founder of the Grenada Chocolate Company and the Organic Cocoa Farmers Co operative, together with his mother Dr Judith Friedman, Chantal Coady and James Booth. The harvest from the land is donated to the Grenada Chocolate Company, while the farmers co operative is paid to care for the land, ensuring that income stays with the local community.
The farm’s renowned Trinitario beans undergo a six day, triple turn fermentation and sun drying. They develop a flavour profile of red berries, stone fruit, citrus, tobacco and fresh grass.
A paperwork anomaly recently led to one batch being formally declassified. This allowed Coady and Booth to purchase the fermented beans for a special cuvée, and to ship them off the island just days before Hurricane Beryl in June 2024. The cocoa was safeguarded from storm damage in a region still marked by past hurricanes Ivan in 2004 and Emily in 2005.

Pump Street 66% Cuvée: A Tribute to Mott Green
At the centre of the collaboration is Pump Street’s 66% Cuvée with cocoa nibs, created in honour of the year of Mott Green’s birth. The thin, crisp chocolate and crunchy nibs showcase the purity of Grenadian Trinitario terroir.
“Working with Joanna Brennan and the Pump Street team has been a joy,” say Chantal Coady and James Booth. “The finished bar captures the distinctive character of this remarkable origin.”
“It has been an honour to work with such exceptional beans,” adds Joanna Brennan of Pump Street. “Chantal and James understand this origin deeply and have ensured that we celebrate it fully.”
