Spring 2025

Dear reader,
Cherry Blossoms on Saturday in Kew Gardens

Your chance to get a box of our sought after Water Ganache or maybe some Lovebird or Stork eggs? We have also introduced a smaller size Rose & Violet cream box for the many die-hard fans out there!
Drumroll… I am delighted to announce that our new collection of Easter Eggs and Hens from Pump St Chocolate has landed. I’ve been a huge fan since the early 2000s, when they were making wonderful sourdough bread and pastries. Since then they have added the brilliantly successful chocolate factory, taking over a building on a former WWII air base in Woodbridge, Suffolk.

People often ask for dark chocolate eggs, and so now you have an abundance of choice, beautiful single origins, from Madagascar and Jamaica, to the Solomon Islands. There are milk versions too, and one of my favourites recipes, with Sourdough Seasalt. There’s a Hot Cross Bun Chicken, and some smaller foiled eggs for Easter egg hunts. Don’t delay ordering, as we could only get small quantities and we know they’re going to sell out fast.

Last time I wrote I explored some of the different traditional Spring celebrations. Huge apologies - I omitted to mention the ancient feast of Passover, which gives most European languages their word for Easter. Then there’s Nowruz, Holi and Ostara*, the modern Pagan celebration of the Equinox. This marks the return of warmth, light and fertility. Legend has it that the great northern goddess of dawn appears in the form of a rabbit or hare and hides eggs under fresh green shoots...

We have good stocks of almost all of our beautiful Bird Eggs, but strike fast if you want Cuckoos, Swallows or Swifts which are in short supply this year.

Other important dates coming up:

30th March - Mother’s Day/Eid
12th April, 12-3pm - Camberwell Pop Up Easter Shop
Tuesday 15th April MIDDAY - last recommended order date / time
April 20th – Easter Sunday!

With best wishes,

Signature Chantal crop
*Easter, Ostara and oestrogen are all derived from the same Germanic root.
