Last week we got a lovely surprise when we opened the Observer Food Monthly and found that our cuckoo eggs had been awarded the top billing and Best Buy in the Easter Egg taste test by Chef Jeremy Lee (of Quo Vadis Fame).

Best Buy The Chocolate Detective 12 Cuckoo’s Eggs £12.75/12 These little eggs in a box are absolutely charming – genius packaging, beautiful colours. A nice thin candy shell. Sweet, but not cloying. This blue one is praline. I’ll try the brown – soft caramel. That was a wonderful surprise! Very winning!

It was such a great moment, and then came the avalanche of orders which we were un-prepared for...
|
How did we get this write up? The Observer contacted us some weeks ago and requested some samples. However we had no idea if they would be well reviewed or who was going to be tasting them, so the wonderful review came as a complete surprise on the day.
|
We sold about a year’s worth of these eggs in one day, and at a certain point we had to switch off the orders. It’s so difficult to guess how many eggs we will sell, and we’re frantically packing and restocking the shelves.
|
If you ordered the cuckoo eggs we hope to get them to you as soon as possible, certainly before Easter. Other birds are also selling well & will be replenished too.

The hand colouring & tissue lining of the egg boxes is very labour intensive & we have been all hands to the pumps!!
